Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga was founded by K. Pattabhi Jois, it is also known as the Eight Limb Yoga. It is taught that the path of purification is made up of the eight spiritual practices.

The first four limbs that represent Ashtanga Yoga are - yama, niyama, Asana and the Pranayama. These are considered cleansing practices which are externally correctable. The other set of limbs which are the - pratyahara, dhyana, dharana are the internal practices.

Ashtanga Yoga will improve the body therefore making it stronger and healthier. Breathing technique is important and should be simultaneous and synchronized, using only a single breath for each movement. The breathing technique used in Ashtanga Yoga is known as Ujjayi Breathing. The practice is to hold a pose longer whilst learning to also hold your breath.

There are three postures used in Ashtanga Yoga. The three are classified on different levels.

The first is the Primary Series which aims on aligning the body and also detoxifying it.

The second is the Intermediate Series opening and cleaning the energy channels which comes to the process of purifying the Nervous System.

The last series would be the Advanced Series from A to D. in this series, the grace and strength is measured.

Enabling your mind to be purified and stabilized clearly can only be done properly through the practice of Ashtanga Yoga which will in turn lead to the body becoming stronger and healthier.

Kriya Yoga

Kriya Yoga is a process of mental purification that uses techniques to teach meditation. It is the fundamental belief of Kriya Yoga practitioners that all of us are a miniature version of the whole cosmos. followers believe that the most holy supreme creator is a part of us hiding in our body. It is thought that the study and science of Kriya yoga has a divine origin which was not created by human means and intellect but was passed down to man in ancient times.

The modernization for this ancient yoga meditation method was begun in the 1860’s with Babaji and it has since been passed on to the present Kriya Yoga lineage of masters directly through the Master to disciple method of teaching. The disciplined path of Kriya Yoga consists of many different kinds of teaching with different angles to it.

The process begins with self introspection through controlled breathing and posture. It is in this way that a Kriya Yoga disciple penetrates the deepest levels of their unconscious mind.

Only by enlightening the three qualities of light, vibration and sound with proper concentration, posture and breathing can the disciple hope to communicate with their inner gods and be able obtain a fulfilling calmness within themselves.

Kriya Yoga practice is for people who are looking for a deeper, more spiritual relationship with their lives through the study of overall wellness, cleanliness, purity, and even metaphysical principles.

Hatha Yoga

There is an ancient hindu system, known as Hatha Yoga, which works with the body's nervous system. It helps to release tension and creates renewed energy, this has lead many people, yoga teachers included, to come to look upon this Indian physical science as purely an exercise for health and vitality of the mind and body.

Although it does that it also does very much more. Hatha yoga practice is more spiritual than physical, more subtle than gross, it is meant to be a way of understanding rather than an exotic way to relieve stress or for just limbering up the body.

There are many complex routines that go into making Hatha Yoga a well balanced system ideal for daily use. For the preparation of meditation there is very little else that is needed, you will be able to free your mind of thoughts and rid yourself of tension. You will become more aware of your own divinity and become more serene, which in turn will make you feel more alive and invigorated.

Hatha Yoga has a spiritual purpose, and that is to balance both the physical and physic energiesso that the practitioner is fully prepared for meditation.

The true aim of Hatha Yoga is to aid us in relaxing the mind, body and emotions so that we may awaken our enlightened consciousness and discover our inner self.

Bikram Yoga also known as Hot Yoga

One of the most popular methods of Yoga is known as Bikram Yoga. Bikram Yoga, is often referred to as "hot yoga" and followers of the Bikram Yoga Method, as with all Yoga find that it has multiple goals - such as the building of inner strength as well as achieving outer physical strength. Important requirements of Bikram Yoga are those of flexibility and balance, which are needed to perform the exercises and it is the belief that this comes from both mental strength and physical practice. Bikram Yoga has its roots in Hatha Yoga, which strengthens both body and mind through healing.

Bikram Choudhury, was the founder of Bikram Yoga, a yoga practitioner and innovator who was determined to recover after a serious weight lifting accident. Bikram Choudhury investigated the healing ability of certain types of exercise. The result was what we now know as Bikram Yoga, which having been found to be such an effective method of healing by many people, that it's tenants were recorded and passed on as a new form of Yoga. There are a great many practitioners of Bikram Yoga, who do so solely for the healing benefits that it brings, but there is also a very strong holistic component, which for many of those who are regular users is the main reason for practicing Bikram Yoga.

The development of the mental strength required to discipline yourself in it's use is the main key to success with Bikram Yoga. Those mastering this aspect of the Yoga will soon see the physical benefits. That the medical benefits have been scientifically proven is beyond question, sufferers of chronic ailments have noted vast improvements in their conditions, as well as those who have used Bikram Yoga in the treatment and recovery of tissue damage.

It has been concluded that Bikram Yoga has the ability to greatly assist in the recovery and repair of damaged internal tissue. It has been explained that the positions practised by Bikram Yoga help to replenish cells and assist the lymphatic system flushing toxins from the body. In addition to the draining of toxins, the cells are greatly assisted by higher oxygen flows produced during and after exercising.

Bikram showed that a healthy and well balanced body was important, if the exercise was to produce the greatest benefits. If the body is weak, then Bikram Yoga will not be as effective in the healing process, due to it's reliance on correct balance and circulation.

Bikram demonstrated 26 exercises and recommended a regime, which needed to be practised each day in order to best treat the body. Each posture exercise was developed based on a background of both Eastern and Western Yoga disciplines. They all focus on the movement and pressure on muscles, nerves, ligaments glands and organs. The exercises are meant to be performed together and in sequence, because they are all inter-related to each other.

Bikram Yoga is low impact and can be performed by people of all different ages. The important component is the discipline required to perform the posture exercises every day for maximum benefit.

Learning about yoga

Many people have an understanding of what Yoga is, most will have a passing knowledge of what it aims to achieve. Unless you have tried Yoga it is not possible to say whether you are the type of person that would benefit from it's influence. Yoga, quite simply can bring about a life changing experience, and the resulting discipline and mental strength that occurs can easily change your perspective and world view completely.

It is thought that Yoga has been around since as early as 3000 B.C. Although there are those who estimate that it may have its origins in an even earlier age, there has not been any definitive proof to support this theory. The origin of Yoga is widely accepted as being from India, although the earliest illustration of yoga was found in the remains of an ancient city located in Pakistan.
This city was known as Mohenjo-Daro, and it was here that seals bearing a figure standing on its head, and another sitting cross legged where found. The word YOGA is Sanskrit and has several meanings, but is generally translated as meaning "to yoke" or "to unite".
Exponents of Yoga feel that Yoga can be beneficial to everyone, regardless of age or any physical constraints. Because Yoga, as an exercise, is of a nonstrenuous nature, it is believed that even people who suffer from physical problems will find it beneficial to practice yoga. There are a vast multitude of different schools of Yoga.
