Learning about yoga

Many people have an understanding of what Yoga is, most will have a passing knowledge of what it aims to achieve. Unless you have tried Yoga it is not possible to say whether you are the type of person that would benefit from it's influence. Yoga, quite simply can bring about a life changing experience, and the resulting discipline and mental strength that occurs can easily change your perspective and world view completely.

It is thought that Yoga has been around since as early as 3000 B.C. Although there are those who estimate that it may have its origins in an even earlier age, there has not been any definitive proof to support this theory. The origin of Yoga is widely accepted as being from India, although the earliest illustration of yoga was found in the remains of an ancient city located in Pakistan.
This city was known as Mohenjo-Daro, and it was here that seals bearing a figure standing on its head, and another sitting cross legged where found. The word YOGA is Sanskrit and has several meanings, but is generally translated as meaning "to yoke" or "to unite".
Exponents of Yoga feel that Yoga can be beneficial to everyone, regardless of age or any physical constraints. Because Yoga, as an exercise, is of a nonstrenuous nature, it is believed that even people who suffer from physical problems will find it beneficial to practice yoga. There are a vast multitude of different schools of Yoga.
